Abe’s Story

Abe’s Story

At 93, WW2 United States Navy Veteran Abe wanted to use an iPad to communicate with friends and family, but with his vision loss, he found it difficult to navigate technology. He enrolled in the adaptive iPad class and learned to use Siri to send and read text messages and add events to his calendar, such as doctor appointments.

Abe’s training also provided him the skill to use VoiceOver, the iPad’s built-in screen reader. He mastered the ability to search the internet and read Wikipedia articles about the ship he served aboard in the Pacific Theater. He was also able to download the OTR (Old-Time Radio) and listen to radio dramas from the 1940’s and 1950’s. Abe’s Lighthouse training allowed him to go back in time but, more importantly, be present with his friends and family.
