Lighthouse of Pinellas Receives National Accreditation

National Accreditation Council

Lighthouse of Pinellas is pleased to announce that is has been reaccredited by the National Accreditation Council for Blind and Low Vision Services. Reaccreditation is a significant milestone in Lighthouse of Pinellas’ ongoing process of seeking to employ best practices and deliver services that focus on positive outcomes for consumers of blind and low vision services.

The National Accreditation Council for Blind and Low Vision Services (NAC) is the only accrediting body that focuses solely on organizations serving blind and low vision consumers. What is accreditation? Accreditation involves a recognized process of assessing organizational structure, process and outcome. Structure encompasses the setting in which services are delivered. Process encompasses the delivery of services. Outcome denotes changes in the consumer’s behavior, knowledge and function. NAC accreditation embraces structure, process and outcome by engaging the subject organization in a detailed self-assessment using NAC developed evidence-informed standards as well as an on-site peer review.

Lighthouse of Pinellas has maintained its NAC accreditation since 2004 and for more than 58 years has been advancing the independence and quality of life for individuals in Pinellas County who are blind or visually impaired. Today, there are nearly 19,500 individuals living in Pinellas County who are experiencing severe vision loss. The Lighthouse provides hope and opportunity to over 500 individuals annually through their various programs.
