Making Chili with your eyes closedA crowd of 75 hungry people milled around serving tables, chatting and waiting patiently with empty Styrofoam bowls in one hand and cash donations in the other. The homemade chili they were waiting to taste was prepared by 15 blind or visually impaired teenagers learning self-reliance skills.

David Yongue, the father of one of the teenagers, saw them first. “Here comes the chili!” he cheerfully announced to the attendees of the 6th Annual Chili Cook-Off, presented by Lighthouse of Pinellas, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing independence and quality of life for county residents who are blind or visually impaired.
