Vocational Rehabilitation
We provide valuable instruction in job readiness skills and assistance with job placement to aid visually impaired working-age adults with maintaining or obtaining employment.
For most people, employment provides a sense of purpose and a necessary income. Yet, 10% of working-age adults with visual impairments are unemployed (in contrast to 4% unemployment for those without vision loss).‡ Our Vocational Rehabilitation Program aims to close this gap.
Our dedicated employment specialist works one-on-one with individuals to provide:
- Job Readiness training (application and résumé assistance, interview skills)
- Job Development (identification and/or development of employment opportunities that match each client’s skills, interests, and needs)
- Job Placement (placing clients in paid employment)
- Job Coaching (short-term on-the-job support for clients who become employed through Job Placement services)
- Work Experiences (short-term job placements with community employers; for clients with little to no work history who need to gain hands-on work experience)
Clients in our Vocational Rehabilitation Program can also receive our non-vocational services to maximize their independence and ability to maintain/obtain employment, including:
