Adult Programs & Services
Our certified vision rehabilitation therapists and orientation & mobility specialists teach adults the skills they need to remain self-sufficient in day-to-day activities. Various training available includes:
Activities of Daily Living
Maintain independence by learning new skills that help with daily living. In this training we practice adaptive techniques to perform activities including cooking, cleaning, money management, home organization, and personal care.
Orientation & Mobility
Walk out your front door with confidence. We empower individuals by teaching new techniques for safe, independent travel, encompassing problem solving skills, use of the long white cane, and public transportation access. This training works to ensure individuals are oriented within their home, worksite, and community.
Assistive Technology
There is no reason to give up your computer or phone because of vision loss. The ability to access and use technology at home and work is more important than ever. Utilizing magnification or screen reader software, our specialized training teaches users touch-typing keyboarding skills, basic and advanced computer use, and use of smart phones and tablets.
Adjustment to Vision Loss
Vision loss can be a devastating, with individuals often experiencing both physical and emotional changes that can affect their personal well-being. We offer individual counseling with a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, a bi-weekly support group, and Coping and Self-Advocacy group classes to address depression, anger, and other common concerns associated with low vision and blindness. The focus of these services is to provide techniques for stress management and problem solving and to instill in each participant a positive self-image as a person who happens to be living with a visual impairment.
Low Vision Training
If you still have some usable vision, you can likely benefit from low vision training. Learn visual skills to maximize use of your remaining vision, learn about and demo adaptive equipment to meet your reading and writing goals, and receive lighting and environmental adaptation recommendations to improve safety in the home.
Vocational Rehabilitation
Are you in need of maintaining or gaining employment? Our dedicated employment specialist works one-on-one with individuals to provide job readiness training, job development, and job placement services, tailored to each individual’s specific vocational goals.

“I learned how to live on my own: cook for myself, clean and do laundry. The teachers helped us look at different careers, write resumes, search for a job and interview.”
