Empowering Independence: Lighthouse of Pinellas’ Vocational Rehabilitation Program

For individuals who are blind or have low vision, finding and maintaining employment can present unique challenges. At Lighthouse of Pinellas (LHP), we believe that vision loss should never be a barrier to success. Our Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Program is designed to equip individuals with the skills, training, and confidence needed to enter or re-enter the workforce, free of charge.

What is the Vocational Rehabilitation Program?

The VR Program at LHP provides comprehensive support to individuals who are blind or visually impaired, helping them gain meaningful employment and achieve greater independence. This program is tailored to each client’s needs and goals, ensuring they receive the training necessary to compete in today’s job market. Clients in the VR Program benefit from a wide range of services, including:

  • Job Readiness Training: Resume building, interview preparation, and workplace etiquette.
  • Assistive Technology Training: Hands-on instruction with screen readers, magnification software, and other adaptive tools.
  • Job Placement Assistance: Support in finding and securing employment opportunities that match each individual’s skills and interests.
  • Independent Living Skills: Guidance on daily tasks such as transportation, financial management, and workplace accommodations.
  • Work-Based Learning Experiences: Opportunities for on-the-job training, internships, and job shadowing.

Who Can Benefit?

This program is open to Pinellas County residents who are blind or have significant vision loss and are seeking employment or career advancement. Clients are required to apply for this program through the Florida Division of Blind Services. Whether you are a young adult just starting out, someone re-entering the workforce, or an individual looking to transition into a new career, we are here to support you.

A Community of Support

Beyond vocational training, clients of LHP become part of a community that understands their challenges and celebrates their achievements. Through peer support groups, networking opportunities, and mentorship, our clients gain not only skills but also encouragement and motivation.

If you or someone you know could benefit from our VR Program, we encourage you to reach out. All our services are free of charge, to those who qualify, thanks to the generosity of our community partners, funders, and donors.
