Children’s Program
(Ages 6 – 13)
Every child should be given the resources to fully participate in school, work, and recreational activities and feel no limits to what they can become.
Our Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs) provide educational and enrichment activities that focus on developing the skills that are essential for children to become independent and confident young adults. Utilizing the nine areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum for students with visual impairments, our program addresses concepts and skill areas beyond the traditional academics taught in the school classroom. Each child works at their own level to build upon their existing skills and knowledge. This program empowers children to navigate their environments confidently and advocate for their needs effectively.
During the school year, the Children’s Program meets once a week and two Saturdays every month. Services during the school year target building skills in the areas of independent living, self-advocacy, assistive technology (including touch typing), and recreation and leisure.
During the months of June and July, we provide a 3- to 4-week intensive Summer Camp, with onsite instruction and activities and community fieldtrips focusing on career exploration, orientation and mobility skills, social and communication skills, and recreation and leisure activities
